The Rhein-Energie-Stadion
The home of 1. FC Köln
The Rhein-Energie-Stadion in Cologne is one of Germany's most famous football arenas and the home of 1. FC Köln. With its modern architecture, passionate fans, and an impressive atmosphere, it is among the most vibrant stadiums in the Bundesliga.
The history of the stadium dates back to 1923, when the Müngersdorfer Stadion was opened on the same site. In the following decades, the venue underwent several renovations and modernizations. For the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the stadium received its current form. Since its renaming in 2004, it has been called the RheinEnergieStadion, named after the main sponsor RheinEnergie AG.
Today, the stadium accommodates 50,000 spectators, including the famous Südkurve (South Stand), where the most loyal FC fans loudly support their team. Especially during 1. FC Köln home games, there is a unique atmosphere characterized by the traditional FC anthem 'Mer stonn zo dir, FC Kölle,' which is sung by the entire fan section before every match.
In addition to 1. FC Köln matches, the RheinEnergieStadion also serves as a venue for international matches of the German national team, concerts, and other major events. Stars like Bruce Springsteen and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have already performed here in front of thousands of fans.
With its long history, modern infrastructure, and unique atmosphere, the RheinEnergieStadion is far more than just a sports venue – it is the emotional heart of Cologne football.
